Invicta fan hopes for a People's Vote!

Folkestone support fan Graham as he bids for lottery funding for charity close to his heart

Folkestone Invicta supporter Graham Kingston is currently angling for a People's Vote- but don't worry, we're not about to bring politics into football!

The season ticket holder, who spends most of his Saturday afternoons watching his Bostik Premier favourites, has asked the club to help him to win National Lottery funding for a local charity very important to him- MASC (Music & Arts for the Shepway Community). And, of course, Invicta have been only too happy to oblige!

Invicta Director Neil Pilcher takes up the story.

‘A short while ago Match Secretary Elaine Orsbourne was approached by Graham and asked whether the club could support MASC's bid for lottery funding by promoting the charity.

Of course we are only too pleased to help, and at our game on Saturday against Whitehawk we will be promoting the charity, and some of the charity members will be at the game handing out flyers to get as much support as possible. Being a community club, we like to help everyone we can and this seems a very worthy cause involving a wide range of people in the area.'

Graham, the driving force behind the bid, is a lifelong supporter of firstly the old Folkestone Town club (where his father was a Director) and now Invicta, and he got involved with MASC after retiring. He explained, 'When I retired from Kent Police I looked for an interesting hobby, and discovered choir singing with one of Music and Arts for the Shepway Community choirs. It is both fun and challenging. I have also helped out with another MASC choir for people and their relatives recovering from strokes.

All MASC activities are free to attend hence the need for funding. Activities are open to members of the community, no auditions required. The more the merrier!”

The People's Projects is a National Lottery initiative- together with ITV- designed to celebrate some of the incredible projects the National Lottery has supported over the past year. In each ITV region the three that receive the most public votes will each receive a grant of up to £50,000 to help them continue their work to improve local people’s lives and help their communities to thrive.

If successful, MASC will use the grant to provide free choirs and arts projects to as many members of our community as possible. MASC provides projects and sessions in music and the arts aimed at four key demographics - children, people over retirement age, people living with disabilities, and people living in social and economic deprivation. Funding from The People's Projects would fund the charity's projects for an entire year.

So, how do you vote? Well, you follow THIS LINK, select 'All Singing All Dancing,' and you'll have made a collection of Folkestone folk very happy!

The best of luck to Graham and all at MASC.

Where next?

Still Urchins, but no more AFC AFC Hornchurch to soon be just Hornchurch!
Casuals and K's to continue ground sharing King George's Field to host both clubs in 2019-20
