It's a Winners Wednesday!

By Ian Townsend

Well we hope there'll be winners- we could of course have two draws. Cray Wanderers take on Leatherhead and Hullbridge Sports 'welcome' Bury Town tonight

We've two matches in the Pitching In Isthmian League tonight, one in the Premier Division and one in the North Division.

In our top tier, Cray Wanderers, newly reinforced, welcome Leatherhead. it would perhaps be premature to describe the match as a relegation battle when we're not much past the half way point of the campaign, but certainly both sides need to start picking up some points- especially the visiting Tanners, who are seven points behind their third bottom hosts.

After a promising start under new management duo of Grant Basey and Gary Alexander Wands have fallen to two defeats, whilst the Tanners have only won one of their last ten, and taken four points from thirty. New boss Luke Tuffs won't be too downhearted by his debut defeat at Worthing, as it's perhaps far more critical that they defeat the teams around them- so tonight would be a good time to start! The two clubs have only met once since Wands were promoted back to the Premier Division, a one-nil win for the Tanners on Boxing Day 2019.

In the North Division, please don't head to Hullbridge Sports for tonight's match against Bury Town, as it is being played at Parkside, home of Aveley.

There is already a nine point gap between Sports, in nineteenth place, and Witham Town one place above them- so if there was ever a time for the side to start winning, it would be now. Winning isn't something they've done much of this season, with only two marked in the 'W' column, and they've lost their last three- although in their defence they were all against sides with promotion pretentions, Maldon & Tiptree, Brentwood Town and Canvey Island. Their visitors also have promotion pretentions, but a mixed campaign so far has also given them a points gap to worry about, and it also totals nine- the difference between them and fifth place Brentwood.

Bury will be looking to bounce back after a surprising defeat at the hands of Witham at the weekend, and after only one win in six they'll hope very much that their next three points will arrive tonight.

Remember, the match is at AVELEY- hence our image!
