It’s Quarter Final time

By Ian Townsend

We’ve reached the business end of the Velocity Trophy, and we’ve three matches and two chances for a giant killing tonight.

Three of our Velocity Trophy Quarter Finals take place tonight, and there’s a chance of an escape from the Pitching In Isthmian North relegation battle for Barking, and a moment away from the Pitching In isthmian South East promotion scrap for Haywards Heath Town.

The side from east London have the long trip to Folkestone Invicta to look forward to. Invicta are in third place in the League and have won their last four, and have been similarly impressive in this competition, defeating Cray Valley PM and Chichester City to get here, whilst Barking, for all their League travails, have already slain Premier giants East Thurrock United and Enfield Town, as well as knocking out promotion-chasing Grays Athletic.

Heath have a similarly daunting task but a much shorter journey, as they make the trip along the A272 and up a bit to face Horsham. Heath have had a tough draw, defeating promotion rivals Ramsgate and Ashford United to reach the last round, when they only went and dumped out Premier title favourites Worthing at Hanbury Park, so they will travel to the Camping World Community Stadium with no fear. The Hornets walloped Corinthian-Casuals five-nil in the last round, and also defeated Hythe Town to reach this stage.

We have an all-Premier clash as Margate welcome Carshalton Athletic. Gate, on a six match unbeaten run in the league, defeated Herne Bay and Tooting & Mitcham United to reach this stage, whilst Athletic fought their way past Merstham and Corinthian. When the two met in the league right back in August, neither could find a goal- so let’s hope that we have one this time around, or we’ll be off to penalties.

All matches kick off at 7.45 PM.

Where next?

It's the Highlights! As we head towards our midweek fixtures, here are some of the best bits from the weekend- on video. Featuring wins for Worthing, Carshalton, Invicta, Grays, Hashtag, Three Bridges, Haywards Heath & Sevenoaks.
Can the Geordies and Uxbridge get their promotion bids back on track? We’ve two matches in the Pitching In Isthmian South Central Division tonight, important at both ends of the table.
