Keeper is Margate caretaker

By Peter Butcher

MARGATE have appointed goalkeeper Craig Holloway as caretaker manager after Chris Kinnear's move to Dover.

Holloway was Kinnear’s first signing last summer. He is a Pro-1 Goalkeeping Academy coach and a former Arsenal professional who worked with David Seaman and Bob Wilson.

The caretaker appointment will allow the directors of the Ryman Premier club to fully assess more than 40 applications – some high profile - for the role of manager.

Chief executive Cliff Egan said: "While we need more time to properly assess all the applications we have received, we felt we needed to have someone formerly in place for the next few matches.

"Who knows, in his role as caretaker, Craig may make it difficult for us to give the job to anyone else!

"But whoever gets the role on a permanent basis, we think it's a great opportunity to capitalise on the momentum built up under Chris Kinnear's tenure at the club."

Holloway has brought in former Margate favourite Danny Hockton and former Crystal Palace, Wolves, Gillingham and Walsall midfielder Simon Osborn to assist him.

Hockton comes in as coach. He has been player-coach at Ryman South club Faversham Town but is most remembered at Hartsdown Park for scoring 40 goals in 46 appearances in the 2006/07 season.

Osborn, named as assistant manager, enjoyed a long career in the Football League before moving into the non-league game. He has managerial experience from Bromley and as assistant to Paul Merson at Walsall.
