Kingfishers five, Curfews four, and Woods slip up again

By Ian Townsend

Our leaders still have a four point cushion despite a fine Tangerine victory, Thatcham pick up their first win in style, Chertsey find form, and the Chips hit back. It's our Pitching In Isthmian South Central round up.

Northwood remain at the top, but this week has not been a good one for the Woods. Their unbeaten record departed in midweek at Walton and Hersham, and they must hate the sight of Ashford Town, as the Tangerines yesterday added a league victory to the cup victory they recorded in August. Luke Maguire was the hero in orange, putting his side ahead on eleven minutes and notching the winner from the spot nineteen minutes from time, after Sydney Ibie’s ninth of the season had earlier levelled for the visitors. Northwood’s misery was complete when Harry Gallagher saw red late on.

Marlow are up to second, whilst Merstham stay bottom after a goalless draw at Moatside. The hosts ended with ten men after Luke Read was dismissed ten minutes from time.

Chertsey Town might want to keep the managers office vacant after a second win this week since they started looking for a new boss. Guernsey arrived for an early kick off and must have wished they’d stayed on the plane- but they might argue that the outcome might had been different had Tom Martin stayed on the field for more than half an hour. William Montague opened the scoring from the spot on thirteen minutes, and doubled the advantage nine minutes after the break, and then Jake Baxter took over, adding two more for a four-nil win. The Curfews climb to fourth.

Thatcham Town welcomed Bedfont Sports still looking for their first league win, and goodness, how they got it! An own goal put Sports ahead a minute from half time, but there was still time for David Nyarko to level before the break. Nyarko then took charge, putting the Kingfishers ahead straight after kick off, and he had his hat trick twenty minutes later. After that the home number nine took a rest from scoring duties, Taylor Harry making it four and Alex Miller adding a fifth. The Kingfishers are up to eighteenth.

Chipstead welcomed promotion hopefuls Uxbridge and a late, late winner gave them three points after they came from behind to win. Victor Osobu put the visitors ahead on seventeen minutes, but the game changed when Kensley Maloney saw red with twenty three minutes left. The equaliser arrived immediately- Jensen Grant with it- and right at the end the Chips got the winner, Jonathan Hood sending them up to thirteenth.

Basingstoke Town slipped out of the top five after a goalless draw at Leatherhead, the Tanners still without a league victory at Fetcham Grove; whilst Tooting & Mitcham United came from behind to level against South Park. The Sparks took the lead on thirty minutes at Imperial Fields, Ethan Ford with the opener, but thirty minutes later Eddie Mbango earned a home point.

It was a match enlived only by two penalties as Sutton Common Rovers drew with Southall. The first spot kick was converted by the visitors, Louis Stead after just nine minutes, but Rovers were level nine minutes before the break, Shawn Lyle with that one- and that was that.
