K's scout takes the plunge for charity!

Kingstonian's chief scout Mickey Taylor was proving that age is no barrier to fundraising again last weekend when he dived in at the Ryman Premier club's local leisure centre to take part in the UK Swimathon.

At a just about pensionable age these days of 67, the experienced scout at Kingsmeadow took to the water with thousands of others around the country last Sunday in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

After setting himself a target of 100 lengths of a 25 metre pool, attired in the club's colours and entered under the name of Turk Kingstonian FC, he was competing in the annual event for a second successive year and aiming to double his efforts for good causes.

Established in 1986, Swimathon is a nationwide swimming challenge to encourage people up and down the UK to swim a variety of challenge distances while raising money for charity. Over the past 27 years of Swimathon, more than half a million swimmers have taken part, raising over £40 million for charitable causes.

From last Friday to Sunday, the UK’s biggest fundraising swimming event saw people taking the plunge at hundreds of pools, including the London Aquatics Centre at The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
