Last kick Cray break Blue hearts- whilst Horsham down the Gulls

We had but two Pitching In Isthmian Premier matches, but what we lacked in quantity we more than made up for in quality

Cray Wanderers needed all hands to the shovels to ensure their game against Billericay Town could go ahead- and those who delivered the necessary brute force will be delighted they helped out, as they watched their side take all three points- and go fourth- with the last kick of the match.

The Wands had been in fine form, with only one defeat in their previous ten, and they went ahead from the spot on thirteen minutes, Anthony Cook converting. The next goal looked all important- when the two sides met on opening day, the Wands took a lead into half time only to lose to two late goals- but this time the hosts got it, Dan Bassett making it two-nil with only twenty one minutes left. At this point, however, the match went rather goal crazy!

Brad Stevenson has been something of a talisman for Billericay this season, and he drew his side level with his fourteenth and fifteenth goals of the season on seventy one and eighty one minutes, the second from the spot. Straight back up the other end and Tom Derry restored home advantage, only for Marvel Ekpiteta to equalise- and seemingly earn his side a point- with three minutes to go. Sam Skefflington had other ideas, however, and with the last kick of the game ensured that all three point stayed at home.

Horsham and Canvey Island didn’t provide the same amount of drama as Cray v Billericay, but the home fans won’t care very much as they watched their side take all three points.

The Hornets made their own lives difficult when they missed a penalty just after the half hour, but they went ahead almost immediately through Charlie Hester-Cook. At the other end, another penalty, this time to the Gulls, and another miss saw Horsham reach the break ahead. The next goal was a long time in arriving, but when it turned up it was a thing of beauty, Jack Mazzone sealing the points with a Christmas cracker seven minutes from time. The Hornets climb to ninth and complete their first double of the campaign, whilst Canvey drop out of the top five.
