Late winner sees Bowers give the Blues the blues

By Ian Townsend

Sunday sees Bowers and Pitsea take the points against ten man Wingate and Finchley

Wingate and Finchley faced Bowers and Pitsea at Summers Lane as the two kicked off the campaign twenty four hours after anyone else, and the visitors left with the points after Daniel Trendall grabbed the winner five minutes from time.

Bowers took the lead with twenty minutes on the clock, but by then already had a numerical advantage as home defender J’Ardell Stirling was back in the changing room, having picked up his first yellow card in the sixth minute and a second thirteen minutes later. Quentin Monville quickly took advantage. He'd already struck the woodwork, but his free kick on twenty minutes gave the visitors the lead.

The ten men were not downhearted, and were level by the break. Charlie Edwards found Bilal Sayoud, who made no mistake.

The second half saw neither side able to find a breakthrough until five minutes from time, when Trendall gave the visitors the points and the glory with a fine volley. Four minutes added time, and the points went back to Essex.

Bowers host Hornchurch in the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round tomorrow night, whilst Wingate and Finchley are also at home once more, as Folkestone Invicta travel to Summers Lane.
