League joins worldwide tribute

The 77 people who lost their lives on Monday will be remembered at fixtures around the globe throughout the weekend after FIFA asked national associations and their member competitions to participate on Friday.

Like the rest of football's global family, the Ryman League's players will don black armbands and a minute's silence will be held before kick-off at all fixtures.

Only six of the passengers on board the plane - three players, two crew members and one journalist - survived Monday night's crash on a mountainside near the Colombian city of Medellin.

Chapecoense, playing in the Brazilian fourth tier as recently as 2009, were on their way to play Atletico Nacional in the Copa Sudamericana, South American football's secondary continental competition and the equivalent of the Europa League.

On Wednesday night, when the match had been due to take place, tens of thousands of fans gathered at the Medellin Stadium - and at Chapecoense's home ground in Chapeco - to pay tearful tributes. Many wore white and carried candles as a mark of respect. In total, Chapecoense lost 19 players and coaching staff with just three players surviving the crash.
