Len Llewellyn

We mourn the passing of an Isthmian stalwart

We were saddened to hear of the passing yesterday of Len Llewellyn, a Life President of Barkingside FC and involved in the Isthmian League for many decades due to his work with Ilford FC and the merged clubs that came afterwards.

Isthmian Chair Nick Robinson has many fond memories of Len.

"Len was a member of the original Ilford Club, and I can still recall he and Derek York informing the Isthmian Council of the resignation of his club and their merger with Leytonstone to form Leytonstone-Ilford. Len was a Committee man at the new club, and remained with it as it merged again with Walthamstow Avenue to form Redbridge Forest, and then again to form Dagenham and Redbridge, playing at the Daggers ground.

Those who knew Len will know he was a printer, and programme collectors will be able to spot a Len production from a great distance; he used the same font for all the programmes he printed. In addition he printed the Isthmian League weekly bulletin for more years than I care to remember.

He was a great “Isthmian” man. In recent years Len returned to his footballing roots with the reformed Ilford and also Barkingside, where he was Club President. Len was hoping to retire to the Isle of Wight where he spent many happy hours but clearly that dream will not now be realised. I am very sad that we have lost yet another man who helped the league over many years to become the league it is today."

Rest in peace Len. Our love and sympathies go to his family and friends, and to all at Barkingside and Ilford Football Clubs.
