Macron crown inaugural performance kings

By David Watters

Tonbridge Angels, Cray Wanderers and Dorking Wanderers have scooped the inaugural Macron Performance of the Month Awards of the new Ryman League campaign.

The trio were named at lunchtime on Friday as August's winners of the monthly competition to recognise and reward the top performances over the course of the 2015-16 season in the Ryman Premier, Ryman North and Ryman South divisions respectively.

As in previous seasons, the competition's judges made their choices after considering a shortlist of potential clashes and taking into account the form and circumstances behind the winning performances.

Each divisional winner can now look forward to being presented with a glass trophy marking the club's achievement at an upcoming fixture by representatives from the league and sponsors Macron.

Tonbridge Angels were named as Macron’s first top flight winners of the season for the second year in a row. After scooping last season's August accolade for beating eventual champions Maidstone United, manager Steve McKimm guided his side to an even more impressive 5-0 win this time around at Bognor Regis Town on Saturday 22 August.

Ryman South newboys Dorking Wanderers marked their first month in the league with a Macron accolade, last season's Sussex County League runners-up announcing their arrival with an award-winnning 4-0 away victory at Carshalton's Athletic's Colston Avenue on the opening day of the season, Saturday 8 August. Wanderers manager Mare White is guaranteed to get a pat on the back from his chairman at the Westhumble Playing Fields as he doubles up in both roles.

Cray Wanderers recruited former VCD Athletic manager Tony Russell at the end of last season to take the club back into the Ryman's top flight. If their result at AFC Sudbury on Saturday 22 August is anything to go by, he's certainly making an impression, Russell's side winning 6-2 to collect Macron's inaugural performance award in Ryman North.
