Magpies plan community comeback

The Magpies might be waving goodbye to the Ryman League after successive relegations but they planning to come back stronger than ever after launching a far-reaching scheme to take Peacehaven & Telscombe into community ownership.

To ensure football survives for the two town’s future generations, officials are pushing ahead with plans to bring Peacehaven & Telscombe FC, Peacehaven & Telscombe Youth and Mid Sussex League Peacehaven United and all their fans together under the umbrella of a single community football club.

The Magpies, who are hoping to follow in the footsteps of thriving community run clubs like Ryman League neighbours Lewes, are launching the venture early next month at The Sports Park with fans invited to a public meeting starting at 7.30pm on Thursday 5 May.

A prospectus which is being produced to explain the scheme and outline the benefits for individuals and businesses will be available at the initiative's launch night.

Calling it a "fantastic" opportunity for the communities to unite through football, acting chairman Sue Norwood said: “I have been involved with Peacehaven & Telscombe FC for 35 years and have lived in Peacehaven for 52 years and I want this football club to continue to be at the heart of our two towns.

“With the joint support from all the fans, Peacehaven & Telscombe Youth, Peacehaven United and of course, Peacehaven & Telscombe FC I want to see the community get behind this fantastic football club.

"I want our children to have a football club they can be part of and be proud of and I want the people of our two towns to support and get involved with this fantastic scheme.”
