Major milestone in sight for Martin

The Boro boss, pictured, will celebrate the landmark fixture at Ship Lane in midweek after taking his side to Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday in Ryman North.

Since leading the club to the Essex Senior League title in 2009 a year after taking charge, Martin has established Romford in the Ryman League on a smaller budget than most.

His current side recently created history by breaking the longest undefeated record at home having not lost on their own turf since a 2-0 reverse against Maldon back in March, a run of 16 matches in all competitions. Unbeaten at home in 12 matches this season, they will equal another record if they avoid defeat against Bowers.

Martin told the Romford Recorder ahead of the weekend's programme: “I saw [Hornchurch manager] Jimmy McFarlane celebrating his 400th the other week and I did think ‘I can’t be far away from a landmark myself’. I believe I’m the longest-serving manager in the Ryman North now, so it’s great to be only 40 and have those achievements.

"Matt Toms made his 175th appearance for us on Saturday at Sudbury so that’s another. There is something special about Romford. It just makes people stick together and it is just a shame we don’t always get the praise and credit we deserve.”
