Maldon clinch second place

By Peter Butcher

TWO goals in five second-half minutes gave Maldon a 2-0 victory at Brentwood tonight (Thursday) and clinched the Ryman North runners-up spot.

Michael Toner broke the deadlock after 58 minutes and Kevin McLeod quickly added the insurance. Maldon are only three points ahead of Thamesmead but they have an advantage of 21 in the goal difference column.

Romford moved up to eighth with a 3-1 home win over Waltham Abbey, though the scoreline was harsh on the Abbotts who put up a good show despite the fact that it was their third game in four days.

Boro were two up in 15 minutes through Ben Jones and Lewis Francis, but the tired visitors held their own and pulled one back through Tom Laxton in the 73rd minute. Nick Reynolds netted Romford’s third as time ran out.

Where next?

Tired Abbotts stun the champions FULL marks to Waltham Abbey, who ended a hectic week with a stunning 5-3 victory at Ryman North champions Grays yesterday (Saturday), ending their hosts’ record-breaking 18-match winning run.
Tanners in the driving seat A SINGLE goal by Sam Blackman in added time at the end of the first half was enough to lift Leatherhead back into the Ryman South play-off places tonight (Wednesday).
