Millers and Barking kick off our North Division weekend- tonight

By Ian Townsend

We've only three North Division matches due to Trophy commitments, but they're all big ones!

Our North Division weekend starts tonight, as Aveley and Barking- who must be sick of the sight of each other- meet at Parkside. This will be their third meeting this month, and so far they’ve scored two goals each- although the visitors are ahead courtesy of winning a penalty shootout! The visitors are also ahead in the league table, and will go top with victory tonight, whilst the Millers haven’t had the start to the season they may have anticipated but will surely be climbing the table soon.

Tomorrow we have a derby match, as Heybridge Swifts host Maldon & Tiptree. Swifts have a new manager, the Jammers a trio of new players, and the hosts will be desperate to pick up their first win of the campaign against their biggest rivals. They came close at Aveley last Saturday, only for two late goals to ruin the party and leave them with only one point. The Jammers haven’t been quite themselves yet either, losing their last match three-nil to Hashtag United.

AFC Sudbury could mathematically be top of the table on Saturday night, but they’d need a very big win to get to the summit as Grays Athletic are three points ahead with a much superior goal difference. The yellows have been very strong this season, losing only one match from nine, whilst hosts Romford are still looking for consistency, having won two and lost three of their league matches so far. Boro’s problems have been at the back- twenty one goals conceded from nine matches in all competitions- and they fell four-nil at Grays Athletic last time out.
