Millers go fifth with five- whilst United and Becks have to settle for a point each

By Ian Townsend

It was a big night for Cray Valley PM, whilst Ashford United and Beckenham Town shared the spoils but delivered four goals

Cray Valley PM turned their four game unbeaten run into five, and scored five goals too, as they walloped sorry Faversham Town at the Artic Stadium. The bottom placed Lilywhites have revamped their squad of late and looked, perhaps, to have turned a corner, but two five-nil defeats in four days tells a different story. The Millers were two up within a quarter of an hour, Antone Douglas and Ade Adeyemo with the goals, and then gave their visitors some respite until six minutes after the break, Barney Williams making it three. Adeyemo then decided that he was mightily attracted to the match ball and had to have it for his very own, and goals on fifty eight and eighty one minutes saw his dream come true (pictured)- and his side up to fifth place.

Ashford United had taken only one point from two promotion rivals- Whitehawk and Chatham Town- in their previous two games, and came close to taking no points at all as another, Beckenham Town, came within a minute of victory at Homelands last night. It all looked promising for the Nuts and Bolts when Omari Hibbert put them ahead from the spot midway through the first half, but Becks- who unlike their superstar namesake are not about to jet to Qatar- decided to change the direction of the match midway through the second period, George Goodwin finding an equaliser and Steven Townsend looking to have given them victory, their second goal arriving with just fifteen minutes left. Right at the death, however, the visitors were forced to give up two of their expected three points, as Omar Lawson levelled for the hosts.

Ashford ended the night in fourth, whilst Town are outside the top five only on goal difference.

In the Velocity Cup, Chatham Town eased to victory against Sittingbourne, and will now host a Fourth Round tie against Herne Bay or Sevenoaks Town. The Chats went ahead after just four minutes through Dan Bradshaw, and the same player scored their third of the night eleven minutes from time. In between those goals, Dan Thompson made it two-nil.
