Millers go five clear- whilst Hullbridge and Barking boost their survival hopes

Maldon & Hashtag's play off dreams look in tatters, and Aveley have one hand on the trophy

Aveley travelled to face already relegated Romford yesterday, and got their title charge back on track with a comprehensive victory, going five points clear at the top. The Millers managed two goals in each half, Garrett Kelly and Alex Akrofi doing the first half damage, Jon Benton and Harry Gibbs with the second half goals, and although L'heureux Menga got a late consolation for Boro the result piles the pressure on Canvey Island, five points behind with three games remaining.

At the other end of the table, Barking travelled to face Hashtag United and moved up to third from bottom with victory, coming from behind to get it. Luke Hirst put the Tags ahead after just seven minutes, but George Okoye drew the Blues level five minutes before the break and Kieran Jones got what proved to be the winner on sixty six minutes. Witham Town now desperately need a win at AFC Sudbury today, whilst the Tags promotion hopes are over.

Another side whose promotion hopes look as good as over are Maldon & Tiptree, who lost at Hullbridge Sports- Sports now six points clear of the danger zone, a remarkable achievement given there was a point in mid season when they seemed cemented to the bottom of the table. Luke Hornsley gave the hosts a ninth minute lead, and when Kieran Bailey extended it just after the break the home fans were in dreamland- but they had to work hard to hold on for victory. Ade Cole got one back with thirteen minutes remaining and it was all hands to the pumps for the hosts, who saw George Smith restore their two goal cushion five minutes from time. Even them the Jammers weren't done, and Cole scored a late penalty- but the hosts held on.
