Millers go top, Tags move up

By Ian Townsend

And on Sunday the Scholars took three points despite having twenty minutes without a keeper. It's our Sunday/Monday round up

Aveley hit the top of the Pitching In Isthmian Premier table with a one hundred percent record after a narrow victory over Billericay Town last night. The Millers, who got a late winner at Hastings United on Saturday, struck with twenty two minutes to go at Parkside last night, as Bryan Ifeanyi- who scored the opener at the weekend- was the first to react after a free kick was parried by Harry Seaden in the Town goal, following up to force the ball home. The Millers then picked up their second last minute red card in two matches, Garrett Kelly the man dismissed, but it was too late for the visitors to capitalise.

Heading back to Sunday, Potters Bar Town got off to a winning start despite having to play the last twenty minutes against Herne Bay with an outfield player in goal. Calvin Dickson kept a clean sheet, and a minute from time Quentin Monville grabbed the winner for the Scholars- the only goal of the game.

Scholars boss Sammy Moore gave his views:

Over in the Pitching In Isthmian North, Hashtag United and East Thurrock United were both in search of their first points. The Tags took them, in a match that had nine yellow cards, winning by two goals to one. A penalty on the stroke of half time got them underway, Kojo Apenteng putting it away, and eight minutes after the break Matthew Wooldridge made it two- a shot which crashed home off the bar and needed the Assistant to confirm it had crossed the line. Jack McQueen got one back fifteen minutes from time, and the fact that Tags keeper Anthony Page got man of the man should illustrate that it certainly wasn't an easy home win, but the points remain at the Len Salmon.
