Millers win big- and Brickies run continues

By Ian Townsend

Cray Valley go fifth, whilst Sittingbourne and East Grinstead Town ease their relegation fears

Cray Valley PM moved to within a point of the top five with a comfortable win at Burgess Hill Town. The Millers broke the deadlock just before the half hour mark, Kiki Oshilaja with the opening goal (pictured- Chris Neal), and just after the break they gave themselves a cushion, Dan Bennett- on from the bench just seconds beforehand- with his sixteenth of the season. If there remained any doubt about the outcome it ended thirteen minutes from time, Ade Adeyemo getting a third for the visitors, and ensuring that Hill ended the night in sixteenth- just a point above the bottom four.

Chichester City saw their play off hopes impeded as they hit a Brickies wall! Sittingbourne had lost only two of their last ten matches, and had conceded only one goal in their previous three hundred and sixty minutes of play prior to last night- and although the Woodstock Park backline was breached, the forward line scored two. Donveive Jones is having a fine scoring season and made it ten for the campaign with the opening goal just after the half hour, and exactlyu thirty minutes later Correy Davidson made it two. Ethan Pritchard got a late consolation for the visitors, but the Brickies open up a three point gap over the bottom four.

Hythe Town’s play off hopes were also hit, the Cannons misfiring at East Grinstead Town. The Wasps brought a four game losing streak to an end, winning by the odd goal in five despite a late flurry. Matt Daniel put the hosts ahead on twenty minutes, a Glenn Wilson penalty giving them some comfort with twenty one minutes to go- but the Cannons then hit back, Duane Acheampong narrowing the gap. Right at the end the hosts got a third, Max Walsh with that one, and it proved the winner. Liam Smith somehow found time to pull another goal back for Hythe, but there wasn’t time for an equaliser. The Wasps are six points above the drop zone, the Cannons five away from the play offs.

Finally, Haywards Heath Town welcomed Three Bridges in a Sussex derby. For most of the game it looked as if Bridges would head back to Crawley with three points, courtesy of a Kieron Pamment goal in the very first minute, but they weren’t helped by having to play the last thirty minutes with ten men after Noel Leighton’s third red card of the campaign. Right at the end the ten men finally crumbled, Cameron Dobell delivering an equaliser for the visitors.

Heath find themselves third from bottom and two points from safety, so even a win tonight may not lift them out of the bottom four- but after an eight match winless run Jay Lovett’s side are in desperate need of three points. Visitors Three Bridges aren’t too much better off, with one win from their last ten, but have a five point advantage over their hosts. Heath are two points from safety, Bridges four clear of the bottom four.
