Moatsiders get speedy revenge, Oysterboys win across the sea, and Rooks chop down the Oaks

Our round up of last night's action in League and Velocity Trophy

We had three matches last night, one in the South East Division and two in the Velocity Trophy- and we'll start our round up in the League. Whitstable Town made the long, long trip to the Channel Islands to face a Guernsey side who hadn't yet experienced home defeat this season. Well they have now!

The Oysterboys had won two of their last three matches, their only defeat coming at the hands of Hastings United, so travelled across the sea (or technically above the sea, we don't think they went by boat) in confident mood. Their hosts, however, had gone five matches without defeat, and given that those fixtures had included four sides who were in the top five at the time were highly fancied to make further progress. For eighty minutes the two sides could not be separated and the scoreline remained untroubled; and then Whitstable's number nine Marcus Elliott found his shooting boots, scoring in the eighty first and eighty fifth minute to make the journey home a rather positive experience and silence most of the six hundred and fifty two at Footes Lane.

Whitstable climb to tenth, two points behind their hosts.

Into the Velocity Trophy knockout stages, and Merstham fans must have dreaded their side returning to King George's Field after their four-nil defeat at the hands of Kingstonian on Saturday. The Moatsiders had gone twelve games without a victory- but they have one now!

Calum Davies must have made them fear more of the same when he put the K's ahead in the seventh minute, but the lead lasted only five minutes, and the visitors were ahead on twenty two minutes, Shola Ayoola with both goals. Davies drew the home side level twelve minutes before the break, and just when it looked like the match would go to penalties Ellis Brown popped up to win it for the Moatsiders.

Lewes hosted Sevenoaks Town at the Dripping Pan. Sevenoaks Town have been having a very good season in the South East Division and arrived hoping for a giant killing, but they were denied the headlines as the Rooks scored a goal in each half to progress to the next round. The opener came from Kayne Diedrick-Roberts, and the second saw Tegan Freeman channel his inner Harry Kane, as he scored an absolute screamer from distance that left visiting keeper Patrick Lee as no more than an interested bystander- and which you'll enjoy enormously when the highlights are released. But if you can't wait, there's some fan footage here.

If you're looking for some football tonight to take your mind off other events today, then we've two matches in the Reposs Women's Cup. Ashford Town (Middx) entertain Enfield Town, whilst Phoenix Sports welcome Leyton Orient, in the Quarter Finals of the competition.
