Moles and Sparks fight for their Play Off rights

By Ian Townsend

Binfield welcome South Park Reigate in a match which is crucial for both sides promotion aspirations

As we reach the closing stages of the season we know that either Basingstoke Town or Walton & Hersham will take the Pitching In Isthmian South Central title. We suspect, given they have ten and nine point leads over the chasing pack, that Marlow and Northwood will join either Stoke or the Swans in the Play Offs. But as for who the final side competing in the end of season lottery will be, that’s a difficult one- indeed with only eight points between fifth and thirteenth, and with some of the chasing pack having six games to go, there could be many twists and turns before April 22nd.

Two of that chasing pack face off this evening. Binfield know that a victory will actually take them up to fifth place; whilst their visitors South Park Reigate are four points further back, but will be aware that an away win would see them narrow the gap on the current occupiers of fifth place, Hanworth Villa, to three points.

Neither side have been in the best of form of late- although the Moles, with two wins and a draw from their last four, are perhaps emerging from their slump at just the right time. They defeated Merstham at the weekend, whilst the Sparks were ending a six match winless run with victory over Ashford Town.

When the two sides met at Whitehall Lane in October, the Sparks triumphed by three goals to one- in a match which saw the Moles take the lead and then have two players sent off before half time, and the Sparks score all of their three goals in the three minutes prior to the interval.
