Monday Night Football!

By Ian Townsend

We've two matches tonight- and one is being played at a neutral venue

Tonight sees two matches in the BetVictor Isthmian League- one in the Premier Division, and one in the North Division. And for once, unless we have a plague of plastic-eating locusts, there should be no danger of either of them being called off.

Our Premier Division match comes from Coles Park, the White Hart Lane home of Haringey Borough. They entertain Carshalton Athletic, and both sides will be looking to get back to winning ways after falling to away defeat on Saturday. Borough have won only two of their last ten matches but are in far better form at Coles Park than away from it, so will approach the match in a positive frame of mind; whilst the Robins had won three consecutive matches prior to losing at Kingstonian at the Weekend. They have lost three of their last five matches on the road, but they will be playing this one on a similar surface to that they have installed at Colston Avenue, so perhaps it might be a home from home. This will be the first time they've met this season, but last season both matches ended three-one to the hosts, so there shouldn't be a shortage of goals tonight!

In the North Division, Romford take on Hullbridge Sports, but given that Romford normally play at Brentwood Town and their pitch has been transformed into a temporary swimming facility for ducks, this match will take place at Aveley's duck-free Parkside Stadium.

Romford have played only three times since defeat at Dereham Town on November 23rd, and all of those matches have been away from home. They picked up one win and lost the other two, and this will be their first chance to pick up three points since January 11th, when they lost at Cambridge City. Such terrible luck with postponements means that they have SEVEN matches in hand over second-bottom Felixstowe and Walton United, who they trail by nine points.

Sports, in thirteenth place, are in fine form at present, unbeaten in four matches. They've drawn their last two, against Felixstowe and Walton United and Bury Town, after winning the two previous games against Canvey Island and Soham Town Rangers. They've actually been better on the road than at home, only losing two of their ten league matches on their travels- but then given both clubs are technically away from home tonight we're not sure whether that's an advantage or not!

The two will get to know each other well over the next couple of weeks, as they will meet again on February 15th.
