Billericay Town may be down in thirteenth position in the table, but Monday night`s comfortable 3-0 Essex derby win against Witham Town at New Lodge gives Craig Edwards and his side an outside chance of mounting a top five challenge, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
The Blues are now seven points behind fifth-placed Wingate & Finchley but they possess games in hand on most of the clubs above them – four on Wingate – as they completed back-to-back victories following Saturday's win against bottom side Bury Town.
The home side took only six minutes to take the lead, Afolabi Obafemi volleying past Louis Godwin-Green in the Witham goal.
And they doubled their advantage after 25 minutes with Rowan Liburd reacting quickest when his initial effort came back off a post.
It was virtually game over two minutes before half-time when Billericay made it 3-0 with the impressive Liburd again the scorer, this time getting on the end of a ball over the top to slot past Godwin-Green.
The second half saw the hosts drop off but Witham were unable to trouble home keeper Joe Wright, leaving Garry Kimble`s side just two points above fourth-bottom VCD Athletic who have played a game less ahead of travelling to seventh-placed Metropolitan Police on Tuesday night.
