Muddy Blues keep promise!

By David Watters

Leiston are off hoping their fans will keep on giving after the Ryman Premier club's players and management kept their promise to keep fundraising for a group of local children's hospices.

After raising more than £650 last year for the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) with their inaugural Leiston Ladies Charity Night and a host of other events at Victory Road, the Blues have been busting a gut again for the charity, not to mention getting cold, wet and muddy, by finishing the grueling Nuclear Rush Challenge.

At the last count the Suffolk outfit's Nuclear Rush team of general manager Peter Douglass, his daughter Jen Weeks and players Patrick Brothers, Joe Jefford, Gareth Heath, Alex Rossis and Christy Finch, pictured left to right, had raised £730 for the club's designated charity after completing 6k and 12K versions of the challenge near Brentwood on Saturday 14 May.

A proud Blues spokesman said: "Congratulations for completing the course should go to Gareth Heath, Joe Jefford, Patrick Brothers, Alex Rossis and Christy Finch from the first team and Peter Douglass and Jen Weeks.

"The younger team members completed the 12km course in a very good time with only one injury to a hamstring. Good job the football season is over! General manager Peter Douglass completed the 6km course ably assisted by his daughter Jen Weeks. And all of this was to raise funds for EACH, a wonderful charity that Leiston has now supported for over three years.

"Supporters have been encouraged to sponsor the team and so far the total sponsorship stands at £730. The justgiving.com page will remain live for a few more weeks for supporters to continue to contribute to this worthwhile cause.

"If you wish to sponsor the team please go to www.justgiving.com/Leiston-FC-for-EACH and don't forget to gift aid your contribution. Thank you to everyone who has supported the team."

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) provide end of life care to children and young people and support for their families at home or at one of the charity's network of hospices in the region. For more information visit: www.each.org.uk.
