My First XI: Alex Handscomb

By Ian Townsend

We asked our supporters to pick- and explain- their Team of the campaign from amongst the players they’ve watched this season. Alex, who supports our champions Bishop’s Stortford, picks a Pitching In Isthmian Premier XI

Alex has cheated slightly, picking four Blues when he can only have three. But we’ve allowed it, champions prerogative.

GK - Jack Giddens (Bishops Stortford) - Who else would be in goal, 2 seasons in a row with 24 clean sheets says it all.

DF - Mick Parcell (Hornchurch) - Looked consistent in the games I saw this season at both ends of the pitch.

DF Harry Gibbs (Aveley)- Just seemed to win header after header in the games we played them.

DF Ryan Henshaw (Bishops Stortford) - Leader, ups his game even more when playing against a title rival/league top scorer.

DF Jay Porter (Bishops Stortford) - Added to our defence but offered a lot going forward as well. Can't remember a game where he put a foot wrong and his goal line block away at Billericay was amazing.

MF - Evans Kouassi (Canvey Island) - Just caused teams trouble and provided double digits goals and assists.

MF Anthony Church (Bishop's Stortford)  So vocal and just bosses the midfield, you look back when we lost this season and normally Churchy would be missing from the line up.

MF Tom Wraight (Hornchurch)- Just consistent season in season out with 11 goals from midfield.

FW - Nathan Odokonyero (Bognor Regis) - caused us a lot of problems away at Bognor and scored a couple of decent goals amongst another 20 plus in the league.

FW Joe Taylor( Lewes) - 30 league goals, always up there in the top scorers,  physical presence.

FW Liam Nash (Hornchurch) Again just scores goals for fun at this level ( maybe he wants to come up the M25 and M11 next year

Thanks Alex. Right, who’s next? If you’d like to pick your team of the year, then go ahead! Choose your First XI (remember, only three players from any one side), explain your choices, send them to Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com, and Bob’s the brother of your mother. They’ll appear here soon.
