NLD to coincide with cup

By David Watters

The Ryman League's fans and clubs can start pencilling in the date of next season’s Non-League Day in their football diaries.

Taking place for the seventh consecutive season, Non-League Day 2016 will kick off around the country on Saturday 3 September, this year’s annual celebration of Non-League football coinciding with FA Cup First Qualifying Round day.

NLD was launched in 2010 as a social media experiment to give Non-League clubs a chance to promote themselves by running free or discounted entry to season tickets holders at Premier League and Football League clubs with the weekend off for one of the season’s international breaks.

Organisers expect to announce further details in the coming weeks following the success of last year’s NLD on Saturday 10 October when Scottish clubs joined the hundreds taking part south of the border for the first time.

Thanks to the individual fundraising efforts of clubs and sales of NLD merchandise, thousands of pounds were also raised for last season’s nominated charity, Prostrate Cancer UK.

As well as fundraising for good causes again, NLD’s organisers are also expected to renew their annual link-up with Kick It Out with a number of fixtures around the country chosen again as showpiece games to promote equality and challenge discrimination at all levels of the game.
