Pitching In Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2021-22: Heybridge Swifts

By Ian Townsend

We’re staying North, and our next club is Heybridge Swifts. Anthony Buckby is answering the questions.

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. Anthony Buckby brings us the word from Scraley Road.

1. Thinking about last season- what there was of it- were there any highlights for you?

Unfortunately I cannot remember any highlights with the 2020/2021 season with it being such a brief period of time.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2021-22 campaign?

Alex Teniola who has rejoined, David Cowley has come from AFC Sudbury. Ade Cole is a fantastic signing dropping down from National League South, and we have leaders back such as Nick Brown who is now fresh from a broken leg- and in terms of leadership returning to the club too is left back Joe Claridge who wears the armband with pride.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

Realistically I think top 6 is a must and promotion must be the aim, I don’t see any reason why we cannot push for automatic promotion.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

I love the local ones so Maldon & Tiptree, Witham Town, Brentwood Town.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

In regards to favourite away grounds I would say it’s a toss up between AFC Sudbury and Aveley, both have lovely club houses and are always very welcoming.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Biggest rivals have to be the team up the hill, Maldon & Tiptree. It still hurts to this day how we beat them in the playoff final but never got promotion.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Away fans are always welcome. We have a lovely club house so come on in and make yourself at home. Food and drink are reasonably priced too.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

This is a tough one. Chris Haigh has to be in there after his playoff heroics, Alex Teniola for the impact he had in his first season with us, thinking further back the likes of Sean Marks.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Heybridge Swifts, Maldon & Tiptree, Aveley, Canvey Island and Hashtag Utd

Look out for the final predicted tables later this week!
