Pitching In Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2021-22: Chipstead

By Ian Townsend

We’re taking the High Road, and stopping when we get to Chipstead. Trevor Stotten buys us chips at the Muddy Boot snack bar.

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. We’re off South Central, with Trevor’s guide to Chips.

1. Thinking about last season- what there was of it- were there any highlights for you?

Getting through 3 rounds of the FA Cup, with Oliver Pain, our keeper, saving a penalty in each game.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2021-22 campaign?

Tom Annetts, at right back, making the step up from our under-18s, & big Andy Somo up front.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

Top 10 - any team can beat any other on the day.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Any match really, as it's been a wretched last 2 seasons. I just hope we can all have an uninterrupted and safe season this time - that said, it will be good to visit Guernsey again, now they're back in our division, as well as the newcomers Basingstoke Town, Binfield, Thatcham Town and Sutton Common Rovers.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Tooting & Mitcham United, always a friendly welcome after I used to run their 100 club- plus banter with my brother-in-law, David Penn, who was their programme editor for many years.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Well, it was going to be good to play Whyteleafe in our league again, but it now seems that this won't happen, so South Park are still our neighbours as far as any derby match is thought of.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Try to come by car - the nearest train stations are Coulsdon South (followed by a bus & a walk, or a minicab) or Chipstead (followed by a longer walk) - neither walk is very safe along pavement-less country lanes for the most part.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Sam Bell, who always has time for a few words, and a friendly family who like to come and watch him in matches. Hopefully he can shrug off a bit of tendonitis in his knee, and have another productive season with us.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Hanwell Town, Tooting & Mitcham Utd, Bracknell Town, Marlow & Chertsey Town

Look out for the final predicted tables later this week!
