We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. Bobby Rumble demonstrates great awareness for his tender years- and delivers an assist!
1. Thinking about last season- what there was of it- were there any highlights for you?
My favourite game was the first one at Hythe Town. Alex Laing scored a great long range goal which at the time we thought was a sign of good things to come. Unfortunately Hythe got a very late winner which made me cross.
Bobby prepares to play 'Let's Get Ready to Rumble'- but he may need to put the instrument down if he's going to assist any more goals!
Also in that game I retrieved a ball from behind the goal to allow Burgess Hill to take a quick corner from which we scored so I am counting that as an assist.
2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2021-22 campaign?
I don't know much about the new signings but I have heard good things about them. I hope that some players can progress from the fantastic youth set up at the club to give an example for all the other young players to follow.
3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
10th
4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?
Haywards Heath Town because my Grandad is going to be part of the management team for the day- which was one of the prizes for the Light Up Leylands crowdfunder. The fans contributed £11,000 to cover the cost of upgrading the floodlights at the More Than Tyres Stadium.
I also like road trips to Kent.
5. What is your favourite away ground?
Whitstable Town. This was a lovely day out and we had nice ice cream on the beach. The ground has some character and it was nice to sit and watch the game on the park benches on raised decking behind the goal - you don't get this in many grounds!
6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?
Haywards Heath are the nearest team to us. I also dislike Bognor as they beat us in the Sussex Senior Cup Final.
7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?
You need to get off the train at Wivelsfield not Burgess Hill.
8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?
Aaron Smith-Joseph was a very good player on his day and had the same boots as me.
9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?
Cray Valley PM, VCD Athletic, Hastings United, Faversham Town, Whitehawk.
Look out for the final predicted tables later this week!
