Pitching In Isthmian Performance of the Month Awards, March 2023

By Ian Townsend

We honour the best performances of March- and there were many to choose from

March was a month which delivered many fine Isthmian performances, but eventually we came to the following conclusions:

Pitching In Isthmian Premier

When Margate travelled to take on leaders Hornchurch on March 25th, they looked down and out by half time. Two goals down, taking on a side who were eleven matches unbeaten, surely it was game over- only, as they proved, it most certainly wasn’t! Five minutes after the restart Sam Blackman got a goal back, and then Ben Greenhalgh, so often the key man for the Blues, got into the act. On sixty four minutes the equaliser arrived, and then, with four minutes left, Greenhalgh stepped up once more to score what had seemed at unlikely winner and send Margate to Dreamland.

Many congratulations to the club, who will now have a permanent reminder of their success.

Pitching In Isthmian North

Hashtag United arrived at Stowmarket Town on March 25th with the best record in English football behind them. Twenty one consecutive wins under their belts, they were confident of making it twenty two- but Stow had other ideas. It took them only two minutes to go ahead, Ed Upson with the goal, and just before half time Jack Ainsley made it two. With the Tags striving to deliver a comeback the next goal was all-important, and again it went to the Tags, Upson adding another just before the hour. A late goal for the visitors was nothing more than a consolation.

Many congratulations to Stow on a second award of the morning!

Pitching In Isthmian South Central

Fifteen matches. That was the consecutive number of Basingstoke Town victories as they entertained Hanworth Villa on March 25th- but the Villains decided it was going to stop there. In fine form, they weren’t going to be the latest side to roll over when confronted by the Stoke juggernaut, and instead they blew the South Central title race wide open, Theo Crawford getting the only goal of the game at the start of the second half.

Many congratulations to the fine folks of Hanworth on picking up a greatly deserved prize!

Pitching In Isthmian South East Division

Sheppey United have already claimed one of our prizes this morning- and now they have another. The Ites had a perfect March so there were many results to commend them for, but one particular results caught the eye. On March 25th fellow promotion chasers Beckenham Town travelled to the Island, and left a short while later after experiencing a five goal hammering. Eddie Allsopp, Jake Embery and Danny Leonard made it three-nil before half an hour had been played, and although Nicholas Curran got one back, the hosts added two more in the last twenty minutes, Richard Hammill and Matthew MacArthur doing further damage.

A fine result, and many congratulations to all who contributed to it.
