Pitching In Isthmian Premier supporters predictions: The Final Outcome

By Ian Townsend

The Premier people have spoken! But what did they say? Find out here!

As we witness every summer, it’s rather difficult to predict the outcome of a league season. No matter how much you study form, look at the squads, wonder how much importance you can give to pre-season results, and try to predict your own team somewhere around fifth place (it looks as if around 80% of respondents do this, as if they don’t want to tempt fate by going higher!), there are so many variables that you won’t be able to factor in that getting it right is well-nigh impossible.

So, keeping all that in mind, let’s take a look at how you think the Premier Division will end.

We’re going to start our review with a trip to the seaside? To be more exact, the Sussex seaside. You know which one.

More than half of all respondents believe that Worthing will take the Premier Division title this season. The Mackerel Men were perhaps thwarted from their pursuit of last season’s prize only by the pandemic, and you believe that this time around they will take the title come what may. They will have to cope with the handicap of playing their first few fixtures away from home, however, as pitch improvement work continues.

Cray Wanderers, however, may have believed that they were still in with a chance of overhauling Worthing last season, and given their form they certainly had the right to think that possible. You’ve placed them second once more- indeed you’ve chosen the same top five who occupied those places when the world crashed to a halt in March, although not quite in the same order. Carshalton Athletic, who sat in fifth place at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, have swapped places with third place Hornchurch, who you have demoted to fifth. In between them, just as they were in March, come Folkstone Invicta.

You believe that Horsham and Bognor Regis Town will just miss out on a Playoff prize.

Now, let’s look at the other end. Remember, due to pyramid restructuring, we will definitely lose two sides to relegation- but it might be three, as two of the three third-bottom sides in Step Three will also go down, the two to face that fate being decided by points per game.

Brightlingsea Regent were in last place when the 2019-20 season ended, and you expect them to be there at the end of 2020-21, too. And you expect them to be joined in their regelation woes by Corinthian-Casuals.

After the doomed duo, you expect the battle for twentieth place- and possible relegation- to be lost by Wingate and Finchley, with Merstham just escaping the danger zone.

Our opening day Premier Division fixtures look like this:

Bishop's Stortford vs Bognor Regis Town
Brightlingsea Regent vs Margate
Carshalton Athletic vs Potters Bar Town
Cheshunt vs East Thurrock United
Corinthian-Casuals vs Haringey Borough
Cray Wanderers vs Kingstonian
Enfield Town vs Lewes
Folkestone Invicta vs Worthing
Hornchurch vs Merstham
Leatherhead vs Horsham

For probably the only time this season we won’t be previewing the matches, as there’s little we can say about form that will make much sense! But please head along. Make sure you’ve got face coverings for the areas that are appropriate, be as cash-free as possible, and be prepared to register for track and trace purposes- many of our clubs are using the evePASS app, available on Apple and Android mobile phones.

Have a wonderful season!
