Pitching In Isthmian Premier: Supporters Team of the Season

By Ian Townsend

We’ve been asking our supporters to send in their First XI’s, and we’ve tallied up their votes. Here’s their Premier First XI

Tomorrow we will have the Pitching In Isthmian League AGM and Awards evening, part of which will see the naming of a Team of the Season for each Division. Those votes came from managers, but we’ve been taking votes from paying customers, so we’ll get the chance to see whether they agree with the experts!

First up, our Pitching In Isthmian Premier Supporters Team of the Season.

Goalkeeper:

Jack Giddens (Bishop’s Stortford)

Jack received more votes than the other goalkeeping candidates combined, and it isn’t a surprise. His side conceded fewer goals than any other side in the top flight, and he presided over a rather incredible twenty four clean sheets across the campaign in all competitions- including a run of twelve in a row which crossed three different months.

Defence:

Ryan Henshaw (Bishop’s Stortford)

Ryan was part of the reason that keeper Jack had quite so many clean sheets. He also weighed in with three important goals, in wins over Cheshunt, Haringey Borough and champions Worthing.

Will Salmon (Lewes)

The Rooks didn’t quite crash the promotion party, but Will, after years of being excellent for Leatherhead, delivered his usual phenomenal performances in defence. He also appeared in our Supporters Team of the Season the last time we managed to finish a campaign, so his consistency shines through.

Crossley Lema (Margate)

Another former Tanner, which makes you wonder just how good Leatherhead might have been had they been able to keep hold of them! Crossley has been a revelation for the Blues, and was our most voted for defender across the Division.

Midfield:

Sam Youngs (Enfield Town)

The first of three players from the Towners to make our line up, Sam had a superb season and delivered some crucial goals- nine of them in total.

Ben Greenhalgh (Margate)

With more votes than any other midfielder, Ben certainly impressed everywhere he went last season. His arrival from Tonbridge Angels was most certainly the key to a decent campaign for the Blues, and he showed flair in front of goal, too, scoring an incredible twenty three goals in all competitions.

Jasper Pattenden (Worthing)

The first of two Mackerel Men in our line up, Jasper is about to test himself in National League South, and we doubt he’ll be found wanting. His thirty nine appearances came with ten goals across all competitions, and he was a leading light in Worthing’s title success.

Percy Kiangebeni (Enfield Town)

The final piece of our midfield four is another Towner, as Percy is recognised for his exceptional work at Donkey Lane. Forty nine appearances, five goals, and a large slice of creativity which led to many more as the Towners finished the season our second-highest scorers.

Forwards:

Muhammadu Faal (Enfield Town)

It’s difficult to know what to say about Mo, apart from to scratch our heads in wonder that he’s playing at Step Three. Thirty nine goals in all competitions tells its own story.

Oliver Pearce (Worthing)

We really were blessed with striking talent this season, weren’t we? Ollie also scored thirty nine goals in all competitions, the last of those coming in the Sussex Senior Cup Final against Brighton & Hove Albion on May 10th- and his contribution towards a Worthing title triumph that was sealed with three matches still to play should not be underestimated.

Joe Taylor (Lewes)

It’s got to the stage where you almost expect Joe to be our top scorer every year, and for him to score thirty three goals in all competitions and not be top scorer just shows the breadth of attacking talent across the Division. Another magnificent campaign for Joe- perhaps next season he might fire the Rooks to promotion?

Congratulations to our Supporters First XI. Now, let’s see what our managers think- we’ll have that news for you on Sunday!
