Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22-23: Hashtag United

By Ian Townsend

We're off to the Len Salmon, and Matthew Napier introduces us to the world of Hashtag United

We're asking fans from each of our clubs to answer a series of questions about the past, present and future- and to predict the final league table for 22-23. Matthew is our guide to the world of the social media titans, Hashtag United.

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
So many great highlights last season in our debut Step 4 season. Two spring to my mind.

Firstly, Bury Town 0-2 Hashtag was my favourite awayday because it was my first coach trip with Hashtag that ended up with a win. Over 700+ people, two stunning goals on my camera, and Hashtag used my footage for their highlights video! And we, in a small group, chanted brilliantly against roughly 300 Bury fans at the other side of the pitch.

Secondly, Hashtag 2-0 and 1-1 against Romford got me so much attention as I (controversially) wore a Hashtag and Romford scarf together for the 2-0 victory and I lost everyone's friendship. Four months later, I created a massive green screen “fight” between me and my dual personality “Mr Romford” on YouTube before going to the 1-1 game, everyone in the club loved my video and I got my love back! (I’m never wearing two different scarves ever again!).

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2022-23?

Jermaine Francis made the biggest impact last season and I’m delighted the club offered him the contract for the season ahead, he only came in January! PK Humble is a huge one for the club, he dropped a division down to join us and we made an announcement video on him. I would also mention Pedro Carvalho as I am impressed by what I have seen from him in preseason so far.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
Every friend of mine is saying promotion, promotion, promotion. I am more inclined towards the playoffs because that is the direction the club is building towards for this season. Once we achieve it, we will turn our attention to winning it!

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Lowestoft, Wroxham, and Gt Wakering Rovers are my most anticipated matches. Lowestoft and Wroxham are two brand new grounds I have never been to, and I made great friends in Gt Wakering – although when it came to the game itself, all friendships went out the window!

5. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

My favourite Isthmian away ground would be Heybridge Swifts, very well built ground and a nice setting as well.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

I would say Brentwood, Tilbury and Billericay are our rivals. I also think Hullbridge would be a good shout for this season as they have our ex-players in their current squad.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Arrive early for the car parking outside the stadium, it is most likely to be full around 15-20 mins before kick off time.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Dan Brown - all time top scorer and great personality off the pitch.

9. Who do you predict will finish in the top five this season?
Brentwood Town, East Thurrock United, Hashtag United, Grays Athletic, Bury Town
