Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22-23: Heybridge Swifts

By Ian Townsend

We're off to Essex, and visit Heybridge swifts, with help from Max Clarke

We're asking fans from each of our clubs to answer a series of questions about the past, present and future- and to predict the final league table for 22-23. We’re taking a Swifts trip to Heybridge, and Max is our guide.

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
Despite not finishing where we would’ve liked to last season, a highlight was Felixstowe & Walton United away. Two goals in the 90th minute from Dan Walker managed to turn the game on its head and win us the game three-two.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2022-23?

I believe that new signings Rob Harvey and Quba Gordon will make a big impact this year. We also have some very good players remaining from last season, Andy Fennell and Callum Chafer to name a couple.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
I think we should be finishing in the playoff positions with the strong squad we have.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

I always look forward to the derby games with Maldon & Tiptree, especially the Boxing Day game. I am also looking forward to visiting the new grounds in the league.

5. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

I always liked Dereham Town’s ground when we played them. I also like away games at Bury Town and games at Parkside, home of Aveley (and Grays Athletic).

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Most definitely Maldon & Tiptree. Every game against them is very important to the fans.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Arrive early and enjoy our great bar and facilities we have before the game.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

It’s tough to name just one, so I’m going to pick four! Luke Callander, Lewis Godbold, Joan Luque and Matt Price. All of these players gave a lot to the club on and off the field, showing quality and commitment- and were great personalities.

9. Who do you predict will finish in the top five this season?

AFC Sudbury, Brentwood Town, Heybridge Swifts, Grays Athletic, Felixstowe & Walton United

Thanks Max- right, who's next? If you'd like to represent your club, email Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com and he'll be in touch shortly.
