Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22-23: Whitehawk

By Ian Townsend

Pete Gibbons buys us all a stick of -metaphorical- Brighton rock, as he opens up the world of Whitehawk

We're asking fans from each of our clubs to answer a series of questions about the past, present and future- and to predict the final league table for 22-23. Pete is no longer Enclosed- we've let him out, to give his opinions to the world!

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
It wasn’t a great season, the team underperformed massively and rarely looked cohesive. A 4-1 win away at Tooting has to be the highlight, a great result at a great ground, and great turnout by the Hawks fans. Other highlights came off the pitch with big (100+) travelling Hawks support to Lancing and Burgess Hill making for great days out, despite the games being poor.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2022-23?

We’ve got an almost entirely new squad so it’s hard to judge, and I’ve only been able to get to one pre season game. But Javaun Splatt looked the business even in a poor team, so I’d expect even more from him this year.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

I predicted us to win the league last year which was more a case of blind optimism- we were terrible! But this season will be different as Shaun Saunders is an experienced manager who has won promotion many times before, and a lot of the new signings have good pedigree. I think we will finish in the play offs, and will go with 4th.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

A lot of the best away days have moved out of the division since we’ve arrived (Hastings, Guernsey and Whitstable) so I’m going to go with Beckenham Town - a new ground and I always enjoy a drink in London before and after a game.

5. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?
Hastings, love that ground and gutted not to play them anymore. As mentioned before Tooting’s is great. In our division I think Burgess Hill’s is underrated.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Has to be Three Bridges after their performance on Jan 2nd - anyone who saw the viral clip will understand! Revenge needed this season.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Brighton is one of the UK’s best cities for pubs so get down early and make a day of it.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Henry Muggeridge for being a quality player and a great guy. He will be missed this season!

9. Who do you predict will finish in the top five this season?

Ashford United, Cray Valley PM, Burgess Hill Town, Whitehawk, Ramsgate
