Pitching In Isthmian Supporters predictions 23-24: Dulwich Hamlet

By Ian Townsend

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. We’re off to the Premier, and Dulwich Hamlet, in the company of Samuel Warman.

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

Well it wasn’t a season packed with highlights as it ended in relegation, however their were some memorable wins on the road including 2 last minute goals in a 4-2 win away at Welling as well as a late win at Dover on New Year’s Day. I had some great days at Champion Hill and I’ve managed to drag some mates along, hopefully we win more games there this season.

2. And what was the worst moment?

Sam and Danny Mills

Sam and Danny Mills

Well without doubt the last day, Hakan had just come back and we had nicked a few results to leave survival in our hands just needing a point at home to Chippenham who had nothing to play for, it was a bit of a lacklustre performance which summed up the season, the 1-0 loss combined with results elsewhere sent us down, I felt sad for Hakan and the chairman, fans etc but you soon start to think about what could be next season

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

Joe Felix was brilliant for us, so consistent and direct was a real favourite with the rabble, naturally he has moved on to stay in the NLS with Worthing. Jayden Clarke left in mid season to go to Gillingham but his first half of the season was fantastic, naturally gifted player always looked a cut above to me and I am excited to follow his career and see how he gets on. I personally thought George Porter was an important player for us too scored some vital goals, ran his socks off and finished our top goal scorer although I know he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea as he liked to collect a few cards. I always want to shout out Danny Mills and Sanchez Ming as well who work so hard for the club, thankfully both have been retained.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2023-24 campaign?

Well we retained 3 players! So lots of new faces. I think Mings and Mills will bring vital leadership as well Adrian Clifton who has so much experience. Having watched preseason games so far I also think it’s going to be a good season for Luke Wanadio and Anthony Jeffrey on the wings who’ve looked so dangerous, we have also signed a young midfielder Alfie Allen from Millwall under 21s, he’s looked class so far I imagine he has a really good career ahead of him.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

It would be nice to say we will win the league as we’ve dropped down but this league is so strong some clubs with some serious backing and big name players. Given that we have pretty much an entirely new squad and essentially feels like Hakans first real chance to mould a team I think I will say in the playoff places, I hope!

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Quite a few grounds I’ve not been to before so really excited for the away trips, especially Margate and Whitehawk as well as down to Hastings where Paul Barnes should get a great reception from Hamlet fans, oh but it has to be the Dripping Pan, I cannot wait for that. Looking forward to Horsham as well as have a few mates who will be able to make that one and the burgers look superb.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

Of the ones I’ve been to before in this league I really like Enfield and Wingate & F, both proper non league and have a lot of character and history. Almost all non league grounds have their own style and energy and I can’t wait for the away games to come this season.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

As a veggie this can sometimes be challenging, let’s put it this way I am highly experienced when it comes to cheesy chips but I have to say I took a trip to watch a belting Potters Bar match last year and they have great food,  looking forward to going back there

9. Choose your top five:

Hornchurch, Billericay Town, Hastings United, Cray Wanderers, Dulwich Hamlet
