Pitching In Isthmian Supporters predictions 23-24: Westfield

By Ian Townsend

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. We’re heading to Westfield, with Harrison Powell

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

Undoubtably it was the back-to-back 4-0 wins against Leatherhead and Basingstoke Town; to win against one of the league ‘favourites’ and the team that would eventually win the league in such a convincing way was terrific. Additionally, reaching the second qualifying round in the FA Cup for the first time in club history was something special.

2. And what was the worst moment?

Losing the Aldershot Senior Cup Final - it hurt a lot but hopefully we can use that pain to drive us to achieve our goals this season.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

I hate to pick out specific players, but I’d have to say either the skipper Luke Elliott or his defensive partner Niran Butler - they were both terrific last season. A special mention as well for the ‘Non-League Casillas’ AKA Sonny Wheeler, who’s brilliant shot stopping kept us out of danger last season.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2023-24 campaign?

I’d hope all the team would make a great impact this season! I’m particularly keeping my eye on the strike partnership of Jacob Breckon and Jake Baxter, who I feel really complement each other's games and can be clinical in front of goal.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

I think we can contend for the play-offs this season but ultimately a top-half finish when all is said and done would be a terrific achievement.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

I think some of the teams that have come into the division this season are exciting, with particular focus on Corinthian-Casuals; they’re a big side in the non-league scene and it’ll be amazing to see the Field take them on! Guernsey at the beginning of the season will be great too as it’s always a great day out!

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

I’d have to go for a new one here and say Met Police. The ground is quite big for the standard in this league and the facilities and pitch are always tip top when I’ve been to matches in a spectator capacity.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

It’s tough, but I’d say it’s a toss-up between South Park and Chipstead, they have some burgers that would put most gourmet chefs to shame! I’d also like to give a brief mention to Punjab United of Gravesend, Kent who have a brilliant Punjab Burger!

9. Choose your top five:

Leatherhead, Marlow, Southall, Ascot United, South Park
