Pitts named as new Blues boss

Former Stanways Rovers and Clacton manager Steve Pitts has taken the hot-seat at Ryman Premier Leiston.

Pitts, pictured, was appointed on Sunday after leaving Conference South Bishop's Stortford where he's been working as assistant manager to Rod Stringer since the start of the season.

He replaces Danny Laws following his departure six days earlier and will be joined in the dugout at Victory Road by Steve Ball who returns to the Blues as head coach. The pair take charge in the Ryman Premier for the first time on Saturday at East Thurrock.

Ball, who left Colchester United to take the post, is a familiar face to Leiston's fans and players after playing a key role in their back-to-back promotions from the Eastern Counties League to the Ryman's top flight.

The Blues believe Pitts' experience at a higher level, contacts and record, will pay dividends as gets to work replacing Laws who was appointed in March. Laws called time on his reign after a run of one win in eleven outings left the club fighting to stay out of the bottom four.

In a statement released on their website, the Blues also confirmed that Laws' assistant manager Neil Reader left at the weekend along with Liam Gurney, another member of his coaching team.

Leiston thanked both for the 'great deal of time and hard work' they'd put in after they decided against being involved in the new management set-up.
