Plans for new home under spotlight

Hastings United are expecting fans to turn out in force tonight to hear about the Ryman South club's exciting plans to relocate to a brand new stadium.

The Arrows are holding a public meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday night (Nov 11) after announcing plans to leave Pilot Field, pictured, and move into a new purpose-built football stadium at Combe Valley.

Part of a £70m project to build housing and a sustainable sports village catering for cricket, hockey, rugby, American football, netball, tennis, and petanque, their new home would be at its centre.

The project, which includes a £58m housing development and £12m for the sports facilities, has been put together by Burney Group & Sherlock Consultancy along with a housebuilder Keepmoat Homes and is expected to be completed by 2018 in time for the 2018-19 season.

In a statement on their website, United's officials said they were now working with their partners and Hastings Borough Council and Rother District Council to submit a planning application early next year. The scheme is the culmination of 18 months of work with the trustees of Horntye Park Sports Complex, which will also relocate to the sports village if approval is given to them by the Charity Commission and Sport England.

The club said: “Hastings United FC believe the project is the largest sports related scheme the borough of Hastings will have ever seen or is likely to see. The project is intended to produce increased participation in sport via improved facilities for all which will result in healthy living outcomes and savings to the NHS.

"A substantial amount of new homes will be developed and there will be economic, social and community benefits arising plus inward investment and vitality at no cost to Hastings Borough Council or the public purse. Hasting United also hope that there will be plenty of community gains arising from the sports village and don’t feel there will be any adverse impacts to existing facilities."
