Rams go three clear -and make it ten in a row

Remorseless Ramsgate are too good for the Cannons

Ramsgate reopened the three point gap at the top of Pitching In Isthmian South East with victory in a Kent coast derby against Hythe Town last night.

The two sides had met as recently as October 31st, when a weakened Rams side with the FA Cup on their minds lost to the Cannons in the FA Trophy, but back to full strength last night they were a rather different prospect- and with golden boot winning striker Joe Taylor in such scintillating form it’s almost like giving them a goal start.

The Rams delighted most of the seven hundred and fifty seven watching on by going ahead nine minutes before the break, Jordan Green doing all the hard work before finishing well. It was two-nil quickly after the restart, and of course it was Taylor who got it, putting away a rebound after Steve Phillips saved from Green, but then the visitors gave themselves hope, the always-excellent Frannie Collin halving the arrears.

The next goal was critical, and surprisingly it took twenty seven more minutes to arrive, but rather less surprisingly it came to Taylor. There had been chances at both ends- and Lee Martin had hit the bar for the hosts- but the Rams number nine can always be relied upon to calm their nerves, and with fourteen minutes left on the clock he secured victory with his TWENTY FIFTH goal of the season, and sixth goal in five days. Incidentally, those twenty five goals have arrived in only twenty one matches.

That was that, a result which leaves the Rams three points clear of second place Three Bridges with two games in hand. The Cannons are tenth, but also have games in hand over the sides above them due to their continuing FA Trophy exploits, and will undoubtedly be challenging for a top five spot in the near future. Last night’s defeat ended an eight match unbeaten run for the visitors.

A note to our clubs- if you believe that any of the goals scored by your side was worthy of consideration for the 'Goal of the Month Award,' please feel free to upload it now using the link you were sent, don't feel that you have to wait until the end of the month!
