Rams hit the summit as their rivals fail to win

By Ian Townsend

Ramsgate were the only one of the top five to pick up maximum points, on a day when the victors were mainly at the other end of the table. It's our Pitching In Isthmian South East round up.

Chatham Town, leaders on Saturday morning, saw their match at Beckenham Town postponed- which allowed Ramsgate to take advantage.

The Rams travelled to Burgess Hill Town, and triumphed in a tight match, Tijan Jadama scoring the only goal of the game on the half hour to send his side back to the summit. That’s his fifth of the campaign, and a second away win in two seasons at the More Than Tyres Stadium. The Rams celebration is courtesy of Chris Neal.

We had second v fourth as Ashford United hosted Whitehawk. Four points separated the two and start of play, and that remains the case after a one-one draw. The Nuts and Bolts saw debutant Jarred Trespaderne- back at the club this week- put them ahead midway through the first half, but Charlie Harris levelled for the Hawks just before the break- and that was that. The Hawks remain unbeaten, but have drawn fifty percent of their matches so far.

VCD Athletic had a relatively short trip to take on Corinthian. Vickers had hit a rough patch, losing their last three and conceding ten goals in the process, and that continued as the hoops triumphed by three goals to two. All the goals came before the break- indeed they came within twenty minutes. James Billings put the hosts ahead only for Soul Kader to quickly level. Oscar Hosego then restored home advantage and Billings added to it, before David Ozobia got one back for Vickers. That turned out to be that, and Vickers drop out of the top five, whilst the Hoops are bottom- but only on goal difference.

Chichester City, who scored five at VCD Athletic last weekend, had only one defeat from their last eight matches- and now it’s one from nine, but a late equaliser restricted them to a point against Sittingbourne. Lloyd Rowlatt waited until ten minutes from time to break the deadlock for the hosts, but a minute from time Harrison Pont equalised for the Brickies. City go fifth.

Cray Valley PM are seventh after a point at Hythe Town. Johan Caney-Bryan scored his eighth Cannons goal of the season to give them a sixteenth minute lead, but the equaliser arrived eleven minutes later, Dan Bennett taking his tally to nine. The Cannons are thirteenth.

Littlehampton Town welcomed Sheppey United to the seaside. The Golds were undefeated in their last three matches but couldn’t take that run to four despite taking a seventh minute lead through Dion Jarvis- as the match rapidly turned into the Warren Mfula show, as he hit a hat trick for the Ites. Devon Fender made the last few minutes interesting by reducing the arrears for the hosts, but United held on for a valuable three points.

Lancing had delivered some fine performances of late, winning their last three matches, but the Lancers came undone at fast-improving Sevenoaks Town. Three second half goals did the damage, Freddie Parker opening the scoring from the spot ten minutes after the break, adding a second ten minutes later, and Fumnaya Shomotun making it three just before the end. Oaks are up to twelfth, a point behind the side they vanquished.

Faversham Town had slumped to the bottom of the table after a run which had seen them fail to win a league match since August Bank Holiday Monday- but they lifted themselves off the bottom on goal difference with a win over East Grinstead Town. Goals from Helge Oroma and Matt Bourne put them two up at the break, and although Daniel Uchechi quickly got one back for the Wasps Harrison Carnegie clinched victory for the hosts with twenty five minutes remaining.

Three Bridges and Haywards Heath Town played a Sussex derby prior to the hosts annual firework display- and Bridges fired a few rockets of their own during the match, winning four-one. Kieron Pamment got them underway after just four minutes, and they were two up by the break, Noel Leighton with their second. Twenty minutes from time Camron Lawson added a third, Conner Collcutt got number four four minutes from time, and Tom Collins consolation for Heath wasn’t much of a consolation. Bridges go above their visitors, who drop into the bottom four.
