Rams slay the leaders- and in style

By Ian Townsend

Ramsgate were our big winners on Cup Saturday, but Burgess Hill Town also found themselves slaying a giant. Horndean and Sheppey triumphed, Lancing came close, Oaks get another go

Berkhamsted, of Pitching In Southern Premier Central, played host to Beckenham Town- and the sides delivered a nine goal thriller. Sadly the side on the end of the odd goal in nine were Becks, who despite a late fightback went down five-four. Freddie Nyhus, Dieko Falade, Cameron Brown and Mudiaga Wanogho- the last two in the last two minutes- scored for the visitors.

Burgess Hill Town and Bognor Regis Town met in a Sussex derby, and the Hillians were giant slayers, a goal right at the start and another right at the end removing the Rocks from the competition. Lewis Finney scored both of them. Image from Chris Neal- more here.

We had what looked like a fabulous Kentish derby in prospect as League leaders Chatham Town welcomed Ramsgate. The Chats had started this season as if they’d been a Premier side for all of their existence, winning every match, and were very much favourites, but the Rams put an end to that, hitting them for five at the Bauvill. Goals from Tijan Jadama and the irrepressible Joe Taylor made it two-nil at the break, and although Che Krabbendam got one back six minutes after the restart the Taylor restored the two goal cushion with eighteen minutes to go- and in the last five minutes Bode Anigdugbe got goals number four and five. That’s eight goals already for Golden Boot winner Taylor this season.

Horndean welcomed Bideford of Pitching In Southern Division One South, the Deans undoubtedly contemplating just how far away Bideford would be for a midweek replay. They made sure that replay wasn’t required by winning comfortably, and indeed made it three three-nil wins in three rounds. Zack Willett opened the scoring on six minutes, Jack Breed made it two before the half hour, and Harry Jackson made the last half hour comfortable with a third goal on sixty minutes.

Hythe Town have had a fine, winning start to the season, but couldn’t continue that as Hanworth Villa made the long trip to the Kent coast. The return trip would have felt much shorter after Seanen McKillop ten minutes before the break and Sam Merson twelve minutes from time made it a two-nil win for the Villains.

Lancing welcomed Premier Division Carshalton Athletic to Culver Road and gave them a bit of a fright, before the visitors levelled with sixteen minutes to go to earn a replay. Alex Laing put the hosts ahead eight minutes before the break, but Tommy Bradford rescued the Robins.

Redhill, who defeated South Central side Ashford Town in the last round, knocked out another one of our clubs, South East side Herne Bay. The only goal of the game arrived after ten minutes.

Sevenoaks Town welcomed Whitehawk to Greatness Park, with both sides in a positive vein of form. They’ll need to do it again on the South coast in midweek, after neither side managed a goal.

Sheppey United have had an unbeaten start to the campaign and won their two home matches so far by an aggregate of seven goals to nil. That home aggregate was ten-one by the end of their tie with Kennington, the Ites scoring two goals just after the break through Jacob Lambert and Danny Leonard, letting the visitors back into the game soon afterwards, before Lambert quickly restored their two goal advantage and this time they held it, winning three-one.
