Robins announce another signing- and slay a giant

Bracknell bring in former Watford man, then down the Urchins

Bracknell Town have been busy on the transfer front this week, and yesterday manager Bobby Wilkinson sealed yet another deal, before taking on Premier Division Hornchurch in the Velocity Trophy and emerging victorious.

The signing was that of defender Joy Mukena. Joy was a youth player at Tottenham Hotspur before signing a professional deal at Watford, but never managed to make a first team appearance at Vicarage Road before being released earlier this year. He has since spent time with Southend United and Ipswich Town, and little over a week ago featured for Sunderland Under 23's as a trialist. It's rather a surprise that he's ended up at Larges Lane, because only a few days ago Sunderland Under 23 manager Elliot Dickman, speaking to the Sunderland Echo, had this to say about him:

He’s been in for about ten days now, so we’ll have a chat and see where we’re going from there. He’s come in and given his all. We played Spennymoor last week and he’s played in that game, so he’s had two full games.

We can have a sit down now and really thrash it out in terms of whether we think it’s right for us or we don’t. Fair play to the lad, he’s been a credit and he’s conducted himself well."

He added that he believed Mukena would have no shortage of admirers if he did depart.

The player went straight into the side that hosted Hornchurch last night, and played the full ninety minutes as the Robins taught a rather youthful Urchins side what it felt like to be on the receiving end of a giantkilling. Hornchurch recently knocked Dulwich Hamlet and Oxford City out of the FA Trophy, but they had no answer to the Robins performance last night as another new signing, Joseph Chidyausiku, gave them a first half lead and Seb Bowerman doubled it after the break to send them through to the next round.

The young Urchins side were apparently applauded from the pitch in appreciation of their efforts, and it will be a good learning experience for them given their oldest player was only nineteen years old.
