Robins leave it late- but hit the summit

By Ian Townsend

It was a night of late goals in the South Central Division last night- many of them scored by Ogo Obi!

Bracknell Town are many people’s title favourites this season, and they’ve shown why by remaining undefeated so far. Last night it seemed they would take only one point at Chertsey Town despite Seb Bowerman giving them a second minute lead, due to Casey Maclaren’s equaliser for the hosts and the fact that we got to eighty eight minutes before another goal arrived- but they took all three courtesy of Daniel Bayliss to hit the top of the table. Bowerman, by the way, has now scored in his last four matches, and has six goals for the season.

Westfield surely thought they’d end the night as they started it- leading the rest. They’d have thought that as late as the eighty nineth minute, as at that point goals from IK Hill and Aderi Dede had them in the driving seat as they hosted Hanwell Town, despite the fact that Rob Laney had given the Geordies an early lead. And then the watching masses- at least those who hadn’t left early to beat the rush- were entertained by the Ogo Obi show, the visiting number nine managing to score twice at the death to earn his side the points. Waltham Abbey ended the night in third place, after another late winner gave them victory over Marlow. Billy Holland gave the Abbotts the lead, but Louis Rogers equalised ten minutes before the break and there were only seven minutes left on the referee’s watch when hitman Hallett- Jason that is- got the winner.

Staines Town got back to winning ways as Monty Everett got the only goal of the game against Hertford Town, leaving them in seventh place, whilst a number of our sides got their first wins of the season.

Second half goals from Ashley Hunt and Sydney Ibie gave Chalfont St Peter victory over Barking, the final score two-nil, whilst Chipstead got off to a flyer at Harlow Town, Jack Beadle and Tom Collins putting them two up within six minutes. The Hawks equalised through L’Heuruex Manga and Warren Kayembe before the break, only for that man Collins to seal the points for the visitors sixteen minutes from time. Collins has now scored in the Chips last three matches, four goals in total.

South Park picked up their first win- although to be fair they’ve only played twice- as they came from behind twice to defeat Northwood. Richard Ward gave the Woods a second minute lead, but it lasted only four minutes before Leon Lalor-Dell got his first of the night. Devonte Totesaut put Woods ahead once more nine minutes before the break, but on the hour Lalor-Dell got his second, and with seven minutes left Nasim Dukali sealed victory for Sparks.

Uxbridge and Ashford Town played out a goalless draw at Honeycroft.

Where next?

Vickers make it four wins from four- whilst Hastings find top gear Fourteen of our sides kicked off in the South East Division last night, and thirteen found the net- some rather more than others!
Bees and Swifts go goal mad! Three of our North Division matches last night had two goals between them. The other two had eleven!
