Robins stay five clear, Stoke hit five, whilst Sports and Sparks march on

By Ian Townsend

We had an action packed South Central Division programme yesterday, with few surprises and no chance for Peter Crouch to wheel out his robot dance. Here's our round up.

Bracknell Town saw Uxbridge cut their lead at the top in our early kick off, and they weren’t having that, Dave Tarpey with his fourth of the week and Temi Eweka with two making it three-nil at the break against Ashford Town. Seb Bowerman got number four with fifteen minutes left to delight most of the four hundred and eighty nine present, and that was that. Five points clear for the Robins.

Uxbridge closed the gap on the leaders Bracknell Town temporarily with a hard fought three-two win over Guernsey in our early kick off. Juwon Akintunde and Ryan Haugh gave the Red Army plenty to cheer about in the first half, putting the hosts two goals up, before Ross Allen- with his seventh of the season- got the Green Lions back into the game just after the break. Mahlondo Martin restored the two goal advantage nine minutes from time with his ninth of the season, and although Liam Mahon got one back for the visitors right at the end there wasn’t enough time for an equaliser.

Sutton Common Rovers were quickly ahead against Basingstoke Town, Will Efambe with the goal, but then almost as quickly down to ten men after Jake Hill saw red. The visitors were quickly level, Bradley Wilson with the equaliser, and then Rovers went down to NINE men after Ryan Healy joined him in making an involuntary trip to the changing room. It was no surprise, then, when Wilson got his second of the match just before the break, and he had his hat trick six minutes after half time. Anton Rogers then got into the act with number four, Lloyd Snell made it five, and Stoke were up to third.

Bedfont Sports are having a super season, and they were ahead against Staines Town on twenty five minutes, Connagh Wilks opening the scoring. The advantage was doubled eight minutes after half time due to an own goal, and it was three on sixty four minutes, Tom Brunton with that one. Lewis Flatman made it four right at the end, Sports up to fourth.

Hanwell Town welcomed Peter Crouch (pictured, courtesy of the club) to the Powerday as they hosted Chertsey Town. He had no reason to do his robot dance in the first half as it was goalless, and he may have thought twice about it when the first goal arrived due to deference to his hosts, as it went to the Curfews, Jake Baxter with it. That was that, and the Curfews are seventh, the Geordies slip to fifth.

Tooting & Mitcham United have had a disappointing start to the season, whilst visitors Marlow have done the opposite, and it was Nnamdi Nwachuku’s fourteenth of the season which broke the deadlock in South London. Kameron English soon made it two, but the Terrors then looked to make a fight of it, Dan Williams getting one back. They couldn’t find the equaliser, Marlow ending the day in sixth.

South Park have been superb of late, and were quickly ahead against Chalfont St Peter, Adam Aziz getting his thirteen of the campaign and scoring in his fourth successive match. He had his fourteenth before the break to make it two-nil, and his hat trick midway through the second half, before Joe Bell got into the act to make it four. Sparks are ninth, the Saints third from bottom.

Thatcham Town welcomed Westfield, and they were rather too welcoming when Joel Nakatani-Bown gave the visitors the lead on twenty one minutes. The equaliser came midway through the second half, and it came to Lamin Ceesay, and that was that. The hosts are tenth, the visitors twelfth.

Chipstead hosted a much-reinforced Northwood, and it was one of those reinforcements, Sydney Ibie, who broke the deadlock on nine minutes. That was the only goal of the game, enough to lift Woods off the bottom.
