Rooks sink K’s, Oaks beat Hawks, and Wands hit back to thwart Rocks

Wins for Lewes and Sevenoaks Town- but no win for Bognor, despite being ahead twice

Lewes climbed to ninth in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier table last night with a three-one win at Kingstonian.

The Rooks came into the match with only one defeat from their last ten, and they extended that successful run with only a small scare at Imperial Fields. Bradley Pritchard delivered a close range finish after only eight minutes, and the visitors lead was doubled just before the half hour, Tom Champion heading home. With thirteen minutes to go, Jacob Bancroft caused some consternation for the visiting faithful by halving the arrears, firing home from the edge of the box, but the equaliser didn’t arrive and in added time Tyrique Hyde, on as a substitute only eight minutes previously, got a third for the Rooks. Bognor Regis Town went ahead twice as they welcomed Cray Wanderers to Nyewood Lane, but on each occasion the Wands hit back- and both sides had to settle for a point. The opening goal came just before half time, Cameron Black finishing smartly after good work from Josh McCormick, but twelve minutes after the restart the visitors were level, Sam Skeffington with an impressive finish. Parity lasted only two minutes before Dan Gifford stooped low to head home his first goal since returning to the club on loan from Portsmouth, but on sixty seven minutes a foul on Yahaya Bamba gave Anthony Cook the chance to level from the spot- and he took it. Wands are eighth, and now have more draws- nine- than any other side in the Division. The Rocks are six points behind in thirteenth.

In Pitching In Isthmian South East, Whitehawk looked to get back on track after Saturday’s defeat to Ramsgate, but instead saw their promotion push further derailed by Sevenoaks Town. Oaks took only fifteen minutes to go ahead, Freddie Parkr setting up Will Hoare for a fine finish- and on the stroke of half time provider turned scorer, Parker heading home to make it two.

Try as they might, the Hawks couldn’t get a goal back- but they did get a red card, substitute Marcus Marku departing involuntarily four minutes from time. The ten men then did find the net, Jerson Dos Santos with a consolation right at the end- but it was too little, too late for the visitors. That’s three defeats from four for the Hawks, their worst run of the season.
