Russell heads for warmer climes

Soham stalwart leaves the club for Dubai

Soham Town Rangers have announced that their longest serving player, defender/midfielder Callum Russell, is leaving the club after six years as he heads to Dubai. The player, who made his one hundredth appearance in defeat against Maldon and Tiptree on February 3rd 2018, has made a total of one hundred and ninety two appearances and scored nineteen goals over his six years at Julius Martin Lane.

He's played in every position during his time with the club- he even got to play in goal on New Years Day 2018 when goalkeeper Josh Pope- brother of Burnley and England keeper Nick- was sent off against Dereham Town. Apart from conceding the penalty that contributed to Pope's departure, he did go on to keep a clean sheet for the remaining thirteen minutes plus added time!

Assistant manager Erkan Okay, speaking to the club website, commented:

“We want to wish Callum the very best in moving on to new beginnings.

He is a player who has been different class for us since Rob Mason and myself have been managing the club, improving each season whilst covering every area of the pitch without any issues- and we'll remember some superb individual displays both out wide and up front."

Good luck in the land of sunshine and sand, Callum!
