Ryman South play-off semi-finals review

By David Watters

Play-off semi-finals are normally tight affairs but Tuesday's in Ryman South saw Worthing thrash Hythe Town 7-0 to set up a meeting Faversham Town at Woodside Road on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Worthing, who finished third in the regular season, just a point above Hythe, went in two up at half-time after Omar Bugiel gave them a 10th minute lead and Jordan Maguire-Drew added a second nine minutes later.

In front of a terrific crowd of 948, Zack Newton added a third shortly after half-time, player-manager Gary Elphick headed in just before the hour-mark and Ben Pope made it 5-0 from the penalty spot on 78 minutes.

With the visitors down to ten-men after Nick Reeves was sent-off after conceding the penalty, Maguire-Drew curled in a spectacular free-kick to make it 6-0 on 82 minutes. Bugiel rounded off the win by chipping the seventh two minutes later.

Dorking Wanderers finished second, seven points better off than Faversham, who scraped into fifth spot last Saturday. But that counted for little as the Kent side triumphed 2-1 with a last-gasp winner.

Wanderers took an early 10th minute lead through Luke Hackett. However, after the break Ray Turner's side dominated for long spells and John Scarborough glanced home a header to bring them level on 57 minutes. Charley Robertson stabbed home in the 89th minute with extra-time looming to book their place in the final.
