Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

Hampton & Richmond Borough enjoyed a good Saturday as their 2-1 win at Burgess Hill Town saw them take a five-point lead in the Ryman Premier after second-placed East Thurrock United`s defeat at Leatherhead by the same scoreline, writes Pitchero's Steve W

The Hillians were really up against it after they had defender Andy Pearson dismissed for a last-man foul after just 19 minutes. Tom Jelley rubbed salt into the home wounds by converting the resulting penalty.

But Joe Keehan pulled the ten-man level three minutes later, only for Brendan Kiernan to restore the Beavers lead seven minutes into the second half. And they held that, despite going down to ten-men themselves when Kieran Murphy was dismissed in stoppage time.

Frannie Collin was the Tanners hero against East Thurrock, bagging a brace in the 13th minute from the spot and then 10 minutes from time after Sam Higgins had given the Rocks an early third minute lead, also from 12 yards – his 31st goal of the season.

Tonbridge Angels remain third after a best-of-seven win at Longmead against mid-table Wingate & Finchley.

The visitors led 2-0 at half-time, thanks to a 16th minute Alex Addai goal and Billy Healey`s first on 29 minutes. Healey added a third six minutes after the break.

The Angels` comeback started with Jerome Sobers three minutes later and then the same player made it 2-3 on 65 minutes. The turnaround was completed with a Nathan Elder brace after 68 and 82 minutes.

Billericay Town leap-frogged Dulwich Hamlet into third place after beating them 4-1 at New Lodge.

Hamlet led through Ashley Carew`s sixth minute penalty, only for Jordan Cox after 15 minutes and Glenn Poole`s penalty 10 minutes later to send the hosts into half-time 2-1 up.

The dismissal of Hamlet`s Danny Waldren 10 minutes into the second half proved the turning point. Cox converted the resulting spot-kick and then completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later.

Kingstonian are now just a point behind Dulwich in sixth after a 5-2 hammering of Harrow Borough at Kingsmeadow.

George Wells gave K`s the perfect start with a goal inside the opening minute. And Pelayo Pico Gomez and then Tyron Smith had the home side three-up by the 10th minute.

Pico Gomez on 54 minutes and sub Reece Beckles on 77 minutes made it a nap hand, although Boro did manage two consolations from Fejiri Okenabirhie and Harry Newman in the last couple of minutes.

Leiston are also back in contention after they won 2-0 at a Grays Athletic side who are now six points adrift of the top five.

The Suffolk Blues had goals from Gareth Heath after 43 minutes and Jake Taylor three minutes from time to thank for their victory.

The bottom two, Lewes and VCD Athletic, met at the Dripping Pan and shared a 2-2 draw leaving the Rooks thirteen points adrift of the safety-mark and the Vickers nine. But as Lewes played the final 27 minutes with ten-men after the dismissal of Lloyd Cotton, they`d probably settle for a point.

But they led 2-0, courtesy of a Jonte Smith brace after 12 and 52 minutes. Ricky Sappleton pulled one back from the penalty conceded by Cotton and then equalised with 15 minutes to go.

Farnborough`s improvement continues after a 2-1 win at Imber Court against mid-table Metropolitan Police where, after a goalless opening period, Dennis Oli gave Boro a 58th minute lead.

Charlie Collins equalised five minutes later, but Bogdan Vastsuk won it for Boro on 69 minutes. They are level on points with fourth-bottom Brentwood Town, who also won.

The Essex side won 1-0 at Staines Town, who still need a point or two, thanks to a 23rd minute Tom Richardson effort.

But Needham Market kept their five-point lead over the bottom four after a 1-0 Bloomfields win over Merstham, courtesy of an early fourth minute Michael Brothers goal.

Lawrence Yiga was sent-off for a second bookable offence nine minutes from time but his Canvey Island side held out for a 2-2 draw at Hendon.

Dave Diedhiou gave the Greens a 21st minute lead that veteran Cliff Akurang cancelled out right on half-time. Akurang then gave the Gulls the lead after 80 minutes, but Yiga saw red a minute later and Brandon Adams equalised from the resulting penalty.
