Saturday's Ryman South action review

Ryman League South Division

The Ryman League's Division One South fared slightly better than its northern sister on Saturday – five matches managing to beat the weather while the top flight was wiped out, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And, as in Ryman North, there are new leaders after Burgess Hill Town won the Sussex derby at the Pilot Field against managerless Hastings United to move to the top on goal difference over Faversham Town, whose game was one of seven off.

A crowd of 363 saw Lee Harding put the Hillians in front four minutes before the half-time interval. Ade Olorunda pulled the home side back on level terms after 73 minutes, but just two minutes later they had Richard Rose dismissed for a second bookable offence.

And the visitors took full advantage when Dan Pearse popped up with an 85th minute winner to take them top.

Folkestone Invicta moved into third spot after a 5-2 drubbing of struggling Kent rivals Ramsgate at The Fullicks Stadium.

Matt Newman gave the home side a 38th minute lead with the only goal of the first half. Josh Wooley pulled the Rams back on terms four minutes after the break, only for Ian Draycott to restore Invicta`s lead three minutes later.

The goals kept on coming, with the Rams levelling through Callum McGeehan on 58 minutes and then Draycott scoring his second to put the hosts back in front on the hour-mark. It then went relatively quiet for 10 minutes but then Jordan Wright made it 4-2 on 70 minutes and Draycott completed his hat-trick three minutes later in front of a decent crowd of 323.

Fifth-placed Whyteleafe lost ground when they suffered a 3-2 home defeat on their 3G against Sittingbourne, who had lost their previous five matches.

In front a crowd of 306, veteran Roscoe D`Sane gave `Leafe a 14th minute lead that Greg Andrews doubled three minutes after half-time. However, Bourne, who hadn`t managed to score a goal in their last five defeats, scored three in a 10 minute spell to clinch the points, Harry Smith scoring the first on 71 minutes followed by a brace from Gary Webb in the 76th and 81st minutes.

Whitstable Town moved into seventh place, four points behind Whyteleafe, after beating Redhill 3-1 at the Belmont.

Ian Pulman gave the Osytermen the boost of an early second minute lead. But Connor French equalised for Redhill four minutes after half-time. Pulman restored the home side`s advantage from the spot midway through the half and then Jake Mackenzie made sure with a third two minutes from time.

The only other game to go ahead saw second-bottom Walton Casuals lose 2-1 at Colston Avenue to a Carshalton Athletic outfit who are now twelfth.

The Robins had to come back from being a 48th minute Scott Day goal behind to win, courtesy of Bobby Price in the 79th minute and then Tommy Bradford in the last few seconds of the game.
